Diageo India introduces Carer’s Leave Policy to Support Employees with Caregiving Responsibilities
Bengaluru, 12 Sep 2025: Diageo India has introduced its Carer’s Leave Policy, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a truly inclusive and supportive workplace, while building an organisation of the future.
This industry leading policy offers up to five paid days of leave annually for all full-time employees who need to support loved ones requiring long-term or sustained care, whether due to age, disability, or chronic illness. The leave can also be taken in half-day increments, enabling greater flexibility and responsiveness to personal caregiving demands.
The policy also addresses the rising reality of India’s “sandwich generation”, employees who are simultaneously caring for ageing parents and young children. Recent studies highlight that this dual responsibility is becoming a growing challenge for India’s multigenerational workforce, underscoring the need for organisations to embed caregiving support into their people policies.
Shilpa Vaid, CHRO, Diageo India, said: “At Diageo India, we appreciate that our colleagues play multiple roles in their personal lives. Many of us play the role of caregiver outside of work, whether for children, ageing parents, or loved ones in recovery. Our Carer’s Leave Policy ensures that our people don’t have to choose between being present at home and thriving at work. It’s a tangible expression of our belief that care and courage go hand in hand, and an affirmation that when people feel supported, they bring their best to work, and beyond.”
With this initiative, Diageo India strengthens its portfolio of progressive policies, which already includes gender-neutral parental leave, guidelines for pregnancy loss, fertility & menopause, and holistic wellbeing initiatives. Together, these reflect the company’s purpose of “Celebrating Life, Every Day, Everywhere”, creating a workplace where all voices, challenges, and life stages are honoured and empowered.
