Towards an ‘Open Defecation Free’ village

Energised by the initiatives of our Project S.H.E, the villagers of Goondpur of Alwar district in Rajasthan are working together to improve the health and sanitation systems in the local area.We partnered with NGO Gram Uday, local authorities, villagers, the local Government School, the Health Centre and the Panchayat in the village to organise health camps and productive discussions to change attitudes on sanitation and hygiene.

Led by a young and dynamic Sarpanch, the people of Goondpur committed themselves to becoming an ‘Open Defecation Free’ village by 2017, and also applied and received Swachh Bharat funding to build individual household toilets. Today, the village stands as a shining example of the government’s Swachh Bharat mission.
