Innovation is at the heart of our business philosophy. It drives us to consistently create new products and new experiences for our consumers. The Diageo India Technical Centre in Bengaluru is where we put that into practice.
A globally renowned research and development unit benchmarked to international quality standards, the centre was established in 1989 with an area of around 4,245 sq. ft and only 10 staff on its rolls. Over the years, it has evolved into a state-of-the-art facility with 10 specialised laboratories, which are spread over 20,000 sq. feet, and 25 experienced domain scientists.
The centre began by developing products for local markets and providing support to manufacturing units on quality control. Today it is a best-in-class facility for industry-leading innovation and reinventing existing liquids that cater to global consumer tastes.
The cutting-edge technology and processes at our centre have helped steer the growth and expansion of our product portfolio, both through new products and reinvented liquids and packaging. The award-winning McDowell’s No. 1 Silk is the latest innovative product to come out of the centre. This smooth grain blend whisky has a hint of honey flavour and is expected to appeal to millennials.
Other reinvented products that have proven popular with consumers include Royal Challenge, McDowell’s No. 1 and Signature, each of which has secured several prestigious awards.
